So I thought I’d participate

The blogging world has just added a new member on the second day of 2013. Nothing remarkable there you say and you are right. So, who am I and why do I say I am the outsider? To answer that in a few words is impossible, so hang on to your hat and follow this if you will. My name is Nick O’Hara Smith.

I didn’t know when I was born that I’d lose both testicles at 35, but in the years since I did, a lot of answers have appeared to answer the enigma that is me. It answered the question why for a start. Why was I such a vile kid? Why was I abused? What caused the failure of a really bright kid and promising sportsman? Why could I never settle for a life of stability and happiness with a partner? What was it that stopped me from focussing?

The answer is hormones, mine to be precise. I lost my testicles and found relative mental stability through hormone treatment, giving me what I concluded I’d never had and throwing light on my late puberty with its consequential abuse and bullying and subsequent loss of testicles. One of the biting insults hurled my way during those times was “Outcast” and to be honest, that is how I’ve felt until  I was driven to become a Testicular Cancer and male hormone advocate at The Testicular Cancer Resource Center as its Associate Editor in 1996.

My wild claims that male hormones actually matter found solid ground in 2003 when I was sent new American guidelines on the subject. This culminated in the production of my website, The Testosterone Deficiency Centre which in turn led to my working with other Testicular Cancer sites like TC-Cancer Checkemlads and Darren Couchman’s The Testicle Tour.

Although I am now known for my work around the world to a certain extent, my work in these areas does not define me. Hence the idea of a blog, because I do have thoughts about other things and well, why not share them?
